McDonalds Marcos Highway Reopens

The McDonalds Marcos Highway branch has been one of the most popular fastfood branches in Marikina.   It has been a permanent fixture along Marcos Highway for years and has been home to thousands of meetups, birthday parties, family day lunch outs, friendly meetups and late night hangouts with friends.  Unfortunately, due to the wrath of Typhoon Ondoy, several businesses were submerged  including this McDonalds branch.
elevated at least 4 feet from the ground

Fast forward to 8 months after the destruction of Typhoon Ondoy,  McDonalds Marcos Highway has reopened its branch to the public last June 1, 2010.  The old place was severely flooded which is why the fastfood chain wasn't just renovated but actually rebuilt its store entirely from the ground up.   As a result, the new McDonalds is 4 feet higher above the ground including its terrace, function rooms, playground and drive thru thus making the branch flood free.  The store still has its McCafe counter inside and still operates 24 hours a day.

Everything has been upgraded: a new look, new interior design, new party rooms, cozy seats and a spacious outdoor terrace for the smoking area.   The function rooms can anywhere from 30 to 100 guests.  What's interesting is that the function rooms aren't only limited to birthday parties.  The manager of McDonalds Marcos Highway also mentioned that the function rooms can be reserved for business meetings for up to 2 hours with a minimum of P3,000. consumable.  For inquiries on reservation and booking, call 646-0665.

McDonalds Marcos Highway is located along Gunting St,. corner Marcos Highway, San Roque near Sta Lucia East Mall.

McDonalds Marcos Highway Soon To Reopen

McDonalds Marcos Highway has been one of the longest running McDonalds branches in Marikina City.   This is one of the mozst popular McDonalds branches in the East cause it's very conveniently located along Marcos Highway.   They had function rooms for birthday parties and other celebrations.   They had a drive thru counter for motorists who want a quick take out meal.   They had a playground for kids.   They had wide screen LCDs with lots of fun McDonalds commercials and ads to watch.  They had an open air area with big umbrellas in the front for those who preferred to dine outside.  They were open for 24 hours.

Unfortunately, this branch was severely affected during Typhoon Ondoy and was submerged in floodwater during the typhoon's peak.  I'm sure everybody who passed through this area misses this branch since it's been closed for the past 6 months.

The good news is that McDonalds Marcos Highway is being renovated and already placed a tarpaulin in front announcing their reopening.   From the looks of the place, it seems they're building a 2nd floor, which is a good idea just in case something as worse as last year's flood happens again.

In the meantime, you can visit other McDonalds branches at Q Plaza in Cainta and McDonalds Sumulong Highway beside the Marikina Sports Center.

McDonalds Has A Home In Marikina

One of the branches of McDonalds in Marikina is right beside the Marikina Sports Center.  When McDonalds was first built here, a new street between it and the Sports Center was formed.  Since the new street that sandwiched the two establishments didn't have any name, it was formally named "McDonald Avenue".

Since then, this has been one of the busiest streets in Marikina. This road connects Sumulong Highway and the City Hall of Marikina.  During the mornings, people who go in and out of the Sports Center for their morning exercises around the track and field, pass through this street as the entrance is situated in front of this street.  During the day, several passenger tricycles and city vehicles pass by as well.  During major events like concerts, prayer rallies and sports competitions held inside the Marikina Sports Center, this road serves as the entrance to the venue.  The Marikina doll museum is also located along this road.

McDonalds also has a separate venue at the back good for kiddie parties and seminars.

The road that took the name of a fastfood franchise is now part of Marikina's map.

24 Hour Fastfoods

If you're coming home late night to Marikina or passing through, there are couple of places you can have a late meal, a quick midnight snack, or take home food.  Aside from the usual convenience stores, there are a few 24 hour fastfood joints.

If you're coming from Quezon City or Pasig City and cruising along Marcos Highway, you can get a quick bite at Burger King.  Contrary to popular belief, this branch is not located in Cainta or Antipolo.  It's just at the very outskirt of Marikina City.   Aside from the standard menu of Burger King, this branch also serves breakfast meals as early as 12 midnight.   They also serve a huge cup of coffee when you order their BK Joe coffee.    They have a drive-thru road for those who wish to take out their food. What's unique about this branch of Burger King is that there is an internet cafe on the 2nd floor, which is also open 24 hours.  A lot of people spend the wee hours of the morning here equipped with their laptops enjoying the free wifi when you order.

When you take the immediate u-turn after Burger King, you'll instantly see McDonalds to your right.   McDonalds is also 24 hours open and has a drive thru for convenience.   Unlike Burger King, they only start serving breakfast at 6am.   Their standard menu though is available any time of the day.   What's convenient about this branch is that just outside is a taxi stand where taxis as always available during the night and early morning.

If you're not too keen on fastfood, you can turn right to Gil Fernando Ave and not far is the famous Tapsi Ni Vivian.  Here, you can dine and select from a vast menu.   Their specials, bulalo and tapsi are always available.   If you're the type who would like your meal served on a plate instead of a styrofoam container or wrapped in plastic, then this is the place for you.
