Marikina Shoe Festival 2006 (ThrowbackThursday)

The Marikina Sapatos (Shoe) Festival was initially launched in 2002 under the previous Marikina Mayor Lourdes Fernando. It's aim has been to showcase the Marikina shoe industry with a series of events such as parades, bazaars and shows around the city.

A Marikina Shoe Festival Caravan goes out of the Shoe Capital to visit neighboring cities promoting shoes proudly made from Marikina.

Here is a shoe parade of giant shoes that went around the city in 2006.

M is for Marikina. M is for Malaking Sapatos

Marikina City is well known for its shoe industry.  And because of this, several fixtures around the city are created in the form of shoes.  Along the Riverbanks road leading to C5, you'll find this huge M with a high heel on top.  Just before this, are two huge high heels that can be climbed into.

ShoeStore

Marikina City has been known for its progressive shoe industry.

And Marikina showcases the shoes in many forms.    For example, along Marikina River around Bayan, you'll see some giant shoes floating at the middle and lighted up in the evenings.   You may encounter a motorized high heel cruising the streets.

And then there's the ShoeStore.  Nope we're not talking about actual shoes being sold.

Instead, the entire store is situated inside a big shoe.

Some sari-sari stores along the stretch of Champagnat Ave. in front of the World of Butterflies going to the Marikina Heights National High School are designed as giant shoes, whose sides can be opened to cater to customers.   Think of a Burger Machine mobile stand but inside a shoe instead of steel housing.   These colorful shoes in Marikina Heights are another project of the city of Marikina created to cater to showcase Marikina's flourishing shoe industry.

Shoe On The Run

Ever seen a giant shoe ?  Well how about a gigantic shoe on wheels ?

Marikina City, known for its progressive shoe industry, has built a unique pink high heel shoe which is actually built on top of a tricycle framework.  It's officially called Motorized Cycle Footwear, built by the Engineering Department of Marikina.

The pink color and shoe both represent the spirit of Marikina City combined with the creativity the city constantly shows via its city projects.

When this shoe goes to the streets, may be you could sing this song to the tune of "These Boots Were Made For Walking"

"These shoes were made for riding,
That's just what they'll do.
One of these days these shoes
are gonna roll along with you"
