Traffic Rerouting in Marikina City During Undas 2024 (November 1-2, 2024)

Marikina City will implement traffic rerouting schemes from October 31, to 2, 2024, to manage traffic congestion leading to the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

Affected Areas and Rerouting:

• A. Bonifacio Avenue and Sumulong Highway:

• One-way traffic from October 31, 12:00 PM to November 2, 12:00 AM.

• Only eastbound vehicles will be allowed on Barangka Flyover to Marikina Bridge.

• Vehicles bound for Loyola Memorial Park:

• Take Marcos Highway to Barangka Flyover or Barangka Underloop to A. Bonifacio Avenue.
• Use left lane of A Bonafacio Avenue (one-way during above dates)
• Turn left to the Loyola Memorial Park entrance.
• Turn left on Gonzalo Puyat St.
• Turn right on Gonzalo Puyat St. to Gate 2 of Loyola.

• Vehicles From Loyola To City Proper:

• Turn left to A. Bonifacio Ave.

• Vehicles bound for Marikina City Proper:

• From Marcos Highway, take the right lane on Barangka Flyover or Barangka Underloop.

Motorists planning to pass through Marikina City or visit Loyola Marikina should to plan their trips accordingly.

Monitoring traffic conditions in the NCR around-the-clock is another responsibility assigned to the MMDA Communications and Command Center. Additionally, 30 camera units will be placed in five major cemeteries, including Marikina's Loyola Memorial Park.

Notable Cemeteries in Marikina City

These cemeteries also play a crucial role in the cultural life of Marikina. They are places of reflection, remembrance, and spiritual connection. Recognizing the importance of preserving these historic cemeteries, the Marikina City local government has implemented various initiatives to protect and maintain them, such as clean-ups, grass-cutting, and tree-trimming operations in the city’s cemeteries in preparations for All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day in November.

German "Kuya Germs" Moreno Buried in Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina

The entire entertainment industry and supporters mourned the loss of a great person in the entertainment industry, German "Kuya Germs" Moreno, who passed away at the age of 82, last January 8, 2016 due to cardiac arrest.

German Moreno's modest beginning in the entertainment industry started as working as a janitor and telonero (curtain raiser) of Clover Theater in 1957.  Since then, Kuya Germs was known for being a comedian, actor, radio commentator, host and eventually earned the nickname of "Master Showman." He has discovered a lot of talents and launched careers of many celebrities.

Last January 14, 2016 German Moreno was buried at Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City.

German Moreno joins his parents, Jose Moreno y Calvo (April 23, 1946) and Aurora Molina Vda de Moreno (Sept. 1991) and only sister Pilar Moreno Nite (June 13, 2011) at the Garden of Devotion in Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina.

To visit German Moreno at Loyola Memorial Park, enter the main gate and take the left road.  Look for the San Antonio de Padua statue to the left side, and walk towards the wall.   Landmark is the Barangka Credit Cooperative (blue and yellow) building.

Traffic Rerouting for Undas 2013

As thousands of people flock to Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina to pay respects to their departed loved ones on November 1, Marikina City released a rerouting scheme that will take into effect starting Oct. 31 12pm up to Nov. 3 wherein Quezon City-bound part of A. Bonifacio Avenue will be closed to traffic.

In addition, the Quezon City-bound part of Marikina Bridge will be closed to traffic starting Oct. 31 12pm to Nov. 3. affecting A. Bonifacio Avenue & Sumulong Highway.

Traffic Rerouting In Time for Undas

In preparation for the thousands of people set to visit their departed loved ones at Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina City, traffic rerouting will take into effect to avoid traffic buildup. 

Vehicles going to the Marikina proper will have to take eastbound lanes while vehicles going to the Loyola Memorial Park shall take westbound lanes and turn left to the western lanes of the plaza to Loyola.

Johnny Delgado Passes Away

Award winning actor Johnny Delgado passed away last November 19 due to lymphoma. He is known for being a comedian, drama actor and have portrayed roles of both face and heel in various movies and TV series. He is also one of 4 in the comedic group in the 80's called Bad Bananas along with the late Jay Ilagan, Christopher de Leon and Edgar Mortiz.

Johnny Delgado was buried in Loyola Cemetery, Marikina this afternoon. His director wife Laurice Guillen with family and friends were at the memorial earlier to pay last respects to their loved one.

Undas Rerouting For Loyola Marikina

Yearly, traffic is diverted to avoid decongestion along A Bonifacio Ave. for people who intend to visit their departed loved ones at Loyola Memorial in Marikina City.

To avoid any inconveniences, please take note of the following rerouting areas:

From October 31 to November 1, A. Bonifacio from Marcos Highway leading to Barangka is one way headed all the way towards the Marikina Bridge leading to Bayan. If you wish to head out of Marikina, go to Bayan and take Gil Fernando St. towards Marcos Highway or Calumpang to Ligaya, Marcos Highway. Marcos Highway is not affected by rerouting and so both directions are passable.

If you're bringing a car, you can park at the Marikina Riverbanks area and walk to Loyola Marikina.

And also do prepare for muddy and damp memorial grounds due to the rains brought by the typhoon.

Francis Magalona To Be Buried at Loyola Marikina

Francis Magalona, who recently died of leukemia, is a deep loss to the Filipino nation.  A rap artist, actor, director, producer, composer and photographer among others, he always instilled and portrayed nationalism in his works.

He is survived by his wife Pia and 8 children.

His remains are currently at the Christ The King church in Green Meadows, Quezon City.  He will be brought to Loyola Memorial in Marikina City for his final burial on March 11, 2009.
