Rest in Peace: Amalia Gonzaga de Guzman, Wife of Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman

Amalia Gonzaga de Guzman passed away on Wednesday January 1, 2014 at 4:10pm.  She was 46.

The wife of Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman passed away on Wednesday afternoon in a Pasig hospital. The hospital has not officially released a statement on the cause of death. However, the mayor’s wife had previously been diagnosed with lymphoma.

Amalia is survived by husband Mayor Del R. de Guzman and their 4 children.
Her remains lie at the Premier Chapel A of Loyola Memorial Chapels and Crematorium in Marikina City.

Oplan kaluluwa 2013 ADVISORY on TwitpicAs thousands of people flock to Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina to pay respects to their departed loved ones on November 1, Marikina City released a rerouting scheme that will take into effect starting Oct. 31 12pm up to Nov. 3 wherein Quezon City-bound part of A. Bonifacio Avenue will be closed to traffic.

In addition, the Quezon City-bound part of Marikina Bridge will be closed to traffic starting Oct. 31 12pm to Nov. 3. affecting A. Bonifacio Avenue & Sumulong Highway.

Former NBA basketball player Ron Harper visits Boys Town Rehabilitation Center

Former Chicago Bull and Los Angeles Laker Ron Harper conducted a basketball clinic for orphans at the Manila Boystown in Marikina City on Sunday. Harper was in the country to promote the NBA Global Games 2013, a preseason match between the Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City on October 10.

Created last Sept. 16, 2013, this Facebook community is described as a forum on global challenges, issues and best practices in river management, set amidst the real-life learning laboratory of the Marikina River.

Flood Alert Level Guide & Online Resources for Monitoring Marikina River & Floods

Marikina City has a four-stage alarm level system for the Marikina River:
  • Alarm Level 1, when the water is 15 meters above sea level, means "warning" (babala)
  • Alarm Level 2, when the water is 16 meters above sea level, means "prepare" (maghanda)
  • Alarm Level 3, when the water is 17 meters above sea level, means "evacuate" (lumikas)

These alarm levels are based on the depth of water in Marikina River (Sto. Nino). Malanday, Nangka and Tumana are considered critical areas.
