Marikina Sports Center, open 24 hours!

Ever since Ondoy flooded Marikina (and Marcos Highway, where our subdivision is), I haven't visited Marikina Sports Center until recently. I've mostly frequented the gym at Robinson's East, or otherwise took a run in our village. But summer's here, and that makes running outdoors quite difficult.

Thing is, I'm really not too comfortable running at night. I haven't got the proper gear for night running safety (yet), and there are parts of my run route that aren't well-lit. The alternative? The Marikina Sports Center track oval! :)

My husband and I usually go to the track oval between 9 to 10pm. But a few days ago, we had to rush a number of client requests and projects before the Holy Week break, so we were only able to go to the Sports Center later than usual. I was afraid it would be closed, but lo and behold, the Sports Center staff said they're open 24 hours!

I'm not sure if this schedule is only for the summer. My family and I moved to this part of the Metro about two years ago (I've been a Quezon City girl since birth), and there really are a lot about Marikina I have yet to discover. Marikina Sports Center is one of them. I've been going there for months and it was only recently that I bothered to ask about its schedule :P "Manong Guard" and "Manong Ticketing Booth" just said it's open 24 hours except on Good Friday, when it was closed, and during days when the stadium is reserved for exclusive use.

I've always wanted to try running at a weird hour, say, 3am. With Marikina Sports Center's 24-hour schedule, I might just do that one of these days :D

For inquiries, contact MARIKINA SPORTS CENTER at 646-1635.

** The Php10 entrance fee allows you to use Marikina Sports Center's 400-meter tartan track oval anytime within the day except for specific holidays or when the stadium is reserved for exclusive use.

  11. Yes Marikina Sport Complex is Open for 24 Hours. except sa mga mag swimming at mag gym. kapag summer, swimming is extended to 9pm I think. they also have basketball courts 24 hours din yata and tennis court di ko sure kung 24 hours to. same with table tennis and badminton pero kung nag jog kami dun nakikita ko minsan na may nag lalaro and usually mga 11 pm kami mag jog so baka 24 hours nga din. lagi may naka bukas na ilaw sa track pero hindi lahat nakabukas, medyo madilim pero nakikita mo parin naman yung track

    1. There's a public baseball diamond near the Marikina river park about 3 blocks away from the sports park but i don't think it's open 24 hours.

  13. To everyone who wants to try running the way our ancestors did, the way evolution intended us to run, the way that promotes a safe and natural gait, try BAREFOOT RUNNING. Join the Barefoot Running Philippines facebook page to check for local events! oh and if you're sketical, well try it first and then you can judge. I guarantee you'd be running shodless in no time. :)- look me up at BRP! - AntRunner

  14. question to everyone specially those who are residents of marikina.

I'm from t.sora, commonwealth ave. What's the quickest way to Marikina sports complex? We usually take a jeepney going to puregold san mateo then Marikina bayan.

Is it better to go to cubao then marikina?

Unforunately, i don't know any olympic sized pool in q.c. largest city in the philippines but no sports complex. tsk tsk tsk.

  15. There's a Fairview-Qplaza jeep that you can take from the corner of Commonwealth and Batasan. It will pass through San Mateo and Marikina going to QPlaza, Cainta beside Sta Lucia East Mall. You can get off at Sumulong Highway corner Bluewave mall and walk to the Sports Center, which is just beside McDonalds.

  31. Just watch out for the idiots walking/running the wrong direction on the clearly and well-labeled track. It may be a good idea to also watch out for the others that feel that it's a good idea to be texting while sauntering on the track trying to lose WAAAAAYYYY more fat than that activity alone could possibly burn in 5 years. If you're serious about your exercise, then try to find a time when these types are no longer there... just screws up the mood having to kick someone's ass.
