Marikina Attempts to Break World Record For Most Number of Circumcisions

Marikina is holding a "Tule Party" (Circumcision Party) on May 7, 2011 in hope of capturing the World Record title for the most number of Circumcisions.

All boys aged 12 and up are invited to join the event by going to the Marikina Sports Center.   This is a free event by the Marikina City Government on May 7, 2011 from 7am to 5pm.

Marikina City officials estimates around 1,500 boys to attend and be circumcized.  If your son or relative from Marikina City is eligible and due for circumcision, help the city attain the World Record by joining this free event.

Complete the registration form and fill in your answer and the name of SM City Marikina. There will be one (1) winner of a Torque D2 mobile phone. Deadline for entries is 11:59pm April 24, 2011. All entries will be sorted on April 26 and only the correct entries will be eligible for raffle. Raffle draw will be on April 27 and the lucky winner will be notified thru registered mail, e-mail and phone.

Parts of Marikina Go Waterless On April 20-21, 2011

Some parts of Marikina City will experience 8 hour water interruptions on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 and Thursday, April 21, 2011 as Manila Water will undergo a series of service upgrades.

Daang Bakal (Bagong Silang) corner Bantayog Streets, Concepcion Uno and Japan St., Nangka will be waterless from April 20, 10 p.m. to April 21 6 a.m.
Residents of the affected areas are advised to store water reserves.

Selected Vehicle Emission Testing Centers Closed & Suspended

The Land Transportation Office ordered the closure of eight vehicle emission testing centers and the suspension of twelve vehicle emission testing centers.

The closure is due to issuing fake emission test certificates while the suspension is due to various procedural violations in the conduct of their business.  Three emission testing centers are located in Marikina:

Closed:

• AMA Smoke Emission Testing Center - Pitpitan Street, Barangay San Roque

1 month suspension:

• A.M. Pacleb Enterprises - Chestnut Street corner Mayor Gil Fernando Avenue
• A.M. Pacleb Enterprises  - 194 Mayor Gil Fernando Avenue

The three mentioned are only a minority compared to the several other legitimate Vehicle Emission Testing Centers in Marikina.

Hap Chan Tea House Now Open

A new branch of the popular Chinese restaurant chain Hap Chan opens in Marikina.  The new branch, which opened last October is located at the ground floor of the newly built Sunrise Building along Gil Fernando Ave.

Hap Chan started out as a small tea house in Manila and served only mami, lugao and dimsum.  In 1999, Hap Chan began to expand and franchise its restaurant chain.  Now it offers a wide

 range of popular Chinese cuisine such as spare ribs with tausi sauce, seafood hotpot, birthday noodles, mixed meat noodles, yang chow fried rice, shrimp dumpling, shark's fin dumpling, hakaw, sauted beef with broccoli flower, suckling pig cold cut, roast pigeon, braised crab with ginger and onion, shrimp balls, swahe, steamed lapu-lapu with soy sauce, steamed egg with dry scallop, patatim, lechon kawali and many more.

Hap Chan Marikina City branch is located at the ground floor of the Sunrise Building along Gil Fernando Ave. near Banco de Oro. Parking is available in front of the building.
